Athame (7 inch) - While among practitioners of Wicca & several other Witchcraft traditions the Athame has come to represent the Element of Fire, practitioners of Ceremonial/Ritual Magick & followers of the Western Mystery Tradition (The Golden Dawn, etc) still attribute the Athame to the Element of Air (this corresponds with the attributions/correspondences of the various suits in Tarot as well).
It may be used to cast circles by tracing their circumferences or to cut/re-seal a “door” in a ritual circle or to charge & consecrate objects & banish negative energies. As a masculine principle, it is often (for example, in the Wiccan Great Rite) used in combination with the feminine principle of the chalice, evoking the act of procreation & as a symbol of universal creativity. The Athame is a ritual knife; its purpose is strictly symbolic. The blade is usually straight & dull.
This nice plain wooden Athame works well because the wooden handle is a natural energy conductor that transfers your energy down & out through the top of that Athame. It also gives you the option to draw or wood burn symbols upon it or stain or paint it black if you so choose. The blade of the Athame traditionally is straight, sending out your energy in a focused straight line. Crooked blades like the Kris blade send out a wobbling line of energy.
